UVic guard sinks more points than any player all year, wins player of the week

University of Victoria (UVic) Vikes men’s basketball guard Renoldo Robinson has been named a U SPORTS and Canada West player of the week after two impressive performances against the University of Manitoba (U of M) Bisons.

Robinson scored a team-high 26 points in an 83-79 loss on Friday (Jan.19), while adding four rebounds and a steal.

The second-year athlete then finished with 46 points in a 103-100 overtime victory over the U of M the following night. This was the most points scored in a Canada West game this season. He made six 3-pointers and also came away with four rebounds and three assists.

Robinson is averaging 16.6 points per game this season, which is 13th in the conference. He was a Canada West and U SPORTS All-Rookie honouree last season.

UVic is ranked No. 2 in U SPORTS with a 9-3 record. After a four-game road trip, the Vikes are back at the CARSA Performance Gym to host host the University of Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday (Jan. 26) and Saturday.
