The BRI Security U15 Lake Cowichan Lakers finished second when they hosted their own tournament at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena on Nov. 5-7.
The Lakers opened with a 4-4 tie against the Campbell River Tyees, then won their second game 4-3 over the Comox Valley Chiefs as Ollie Fawcett notched a hat trick that included the game-winner.
Not to be outdone, Cruz Scheffer had a hat trick of his own in the Lakers’ next game, a 9-6 victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.
That sent the Lakers to the gold-medal game, where they came up short in a 6-0 loss to the South Delta Storm.
“Overall it was a great weekend, with great teams and spectators,” team manager Jenny Fawcett said.
The U9 Lakers will host their tournament on Nov. 27-28.
