The Keith Nelson Countrywide Realty midget Lakers continued their undefeated hockey season into late 2016 as they dominated their home tournament on Dec. 28-30.
The Lakers outscored the opposition a combined 30-8 over four games to take gold in the eight-team tournament.
The team, coached by Mark Rowbottom, kicked things off with a 10-2 win over Surrey on Dec. 28, followed by an 8-2 victory over Port Coquitlam and a 6-3 triumph over Gold River, both on Dec. 29. They wrapped up first place with a 6-1 win over Saanich on Dec. 30.
Other teams in attendance came from Cowichan Valley, Campbell River and Victoria.
Upcoming tournaments for Lake Cowichan Minor Hockey include a novice event on Feb. 11-13 and a bantam competition on Feb. 24-26. The Lake Cowichan Minor Hockey Association Jamboree and Skills Event is on Jan. 21.
