The Lakers C1 pee wee hockey team is holding a hot dog fundraiser at Country Grocer on Jan. 28.

Proceeds from the hot dog cook off will go towards the Lakers’ tournament fees, and other costs during the remainder of the Mid-Island Hockey League season.

Assistant coach of the Lakers C1 squad Michah Anderson is excited for the event. He thinks such fundraisers are essential to grass roots athletic organizations.

“People’s budgets don’t always go a long way so you have to fundraise to be able to justify driving your kid all over Vancouver Island and to go to Vancouver and play in tournaments. It’s a good team-builder. That’s what it’s all about,” said Anderson.

Anderson said Lake Cowichan and District Minor Hockey is always looking for volunteers.

“It’s all about effort from parents around here. We want this group of kids to have fun. It’s a gong show trying to orchestrate things and make sure they run smoothly. We need more volunteers to do all the small jobs and then the presidents don’t have to do as much and then they will stick around longer if it’s not that hard a job,” added Anderson.

Prior to the hot dog sale, the Lakers play Nanaimo at 9:30 a.m. on home turf.
