Defenceman Matt Baird will represent the Kerry Park Islanders in the first-ever prospects game between all-star teams from the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League and the Pacific Junior Hockey League this weekend.

Baird will suit up for the VIJHL prospect team in the showcase for 16- to 18-year-old junior B players at the Nanaimo Ice Centre this Sunday. The team will be coached by Oceanside Generals bench boss Dan Lemmon, who played for the junior A Cowichan Valley Capitals from 2005 to 2007.

The 18-year-old Baird, in his second year with the Isles, is the team’s top-scoring defenceman and fifth overall with 14 points on three goals and 11 assists in 32 games. He scored seven goals and assisted on 13 for 20 points last year as he played all 48 regular-season games.

It will be a busy weekend for Baird as the Isles visit the Comox Valley Glacier Kings on Friday night and host the Victoria Cougars on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
