Duncan Christian School’s senior girls basketball team is bound for the provincial 1A championships after a third-place finish at the Island tournament on Tuesday.

The Chargers defeated Glenlyon Norfolk School 66-43 in the bronze-medal game at the Island tournament hosted by Nanaimo Christian.

Player of the Game Michaela Wall set a blistering pace for DCS with 37 points and 16 rebounds. Dara DeVries added eight points and 10 steals, Sydney Dollman had eight points and six steals, Danika Fitzpatrick had six points and nine rebounds, and Julianna Kapteyn grabbed 13 rebounds.

The Chargers opened the tournament with a 62-19 win over Queen Margaret’s School. Wall led the way with 19 points and 13 boards, Claire Scholefield added 12 points, and Kaylie Brown had six steals. Kapteyn was named Player of the Game.

DCS lost their semifinal against Pacific Christian 78-37. Sydney Dollman put up 17 points to earn Player of the Game Honours, Wall grabbed 10 rebounds and Scholefield had nine, and DeVries had four steals.

Wall was selected to the Island tournament all-star team, and Kapteyn was named to the Island Defensive Team.

The Chargers will head to Kelowna for the provincial single-A championships later this spring.
