Jordan Robert’s first-period goal launched a deluge of stuffed toys onto the Island Savings Centre ice, and Adam Conquest’s second-period marker stood up as the winner as the Cowichan Valley Capitals defeated the West Kelowna Warriors 4-1 on Saturday night.

It was the B.C. Hockey League team’s annual Teddy Bear Toss night, and Robert’s goal at 14:31 of the first gave the Caps a 1-0 lead and had fans tossing stuffed animals out of the stands. The Warriors tied the score before the period was over, but the rest of the game was all Cowichan. Conquest notched a powerplay goal in the second, and Timber Lewis and Niko Esposito-Selivanov added third-period scores.

Robert, Conquest and Preston Brodziak all finished with two points on the night, and Cowichan goalie Jack Grant stopped 38 of 39 shots. The Caps went 2-for-5 on the powerplay, while the Warriors scored on one of their two man advantages.

It was the second consecutive win for the Caps, whose record improved to eight wins, 17 losses, four overtime losses and one shootout loss.

The Caps play at home again on Tuesday, hosting the Powell River Kings at 7 p.m.
