Thanks to Nourish Cowichan, Handmade Hugs

It is the time of year when many people are focused on giving and many generous donations are given to our local schools throughout the year.

In particular, there are two nonprofit community groups who have supported our school (and many schools) during this winter season and through the school months. Thank you to the crafty people from Handmade Hugs Society. Your gifts of hats, tuques, blankets, sweaters, pajama bottoms, and even custom pillowcases have made a difference to many of our families during December! I wish I could send you a picture of children as they put on one of your handmade creations and exclaim with wonder, “You mean I get to keep this!?” The craftsmanship, and the vibrant colours of these beautiful soft items all have made their way into homes of deserving children. Thank you to the many people who support Handmade Hugs for your time and generosity and kindness to our students.

We have watched Nourish Cowichan grow from a small group of devoted volunteers to a large community movement through these past few years and they are still going strong powered by volunteer energy, time, resourcefulness and creativity! Thank you to the many Cowichan citizens who donate countless hours creating, shopping, gathering, re-purposing, communicating and delivering homemade nutritious food items to our school and other schools. The hard work you do pays off by supporting students who need energy, nutrition and homemade food so that they can get on with the important work of learning during the day.

From our students, we wish all the individual citizens who contribute to Nourish Cowichan and Handmade Hugs a very Merry Christmas and a heartfelt “thank you” for your compassion!
