Seniors should get vaccine before homeless

Isn’t it great news that finally there are vaccines available to give us some relief from this terrible pandemic that we and the rest of the world have been suffering through?

Having said that, I cannot begin to express my anger to be informed by public health authorities that the homeless will be receiving these vaccines ahead of thousands of senior citizens. These seniors have worked hard and paid taxes all their lives to make this province and country what we enjoy today.

Don’t get me wrong, I have great sympathy for those unfortunates who have become homeless through no fault of their own or those suffering mental health issues. Unfortunately, there is a large portion of the homeless population who got to this state by bad choices of their own regarding drugs! Some have even been offered help and housing, paid for by the taxpayers, and turned it down because these facilities have rules in place that these people don’t want to abide by.

Drugs are nothing new in our society, there were plenty around in my youth if you wanted to find them. Me and my fellow seniors did not make these people choose to become drug users and to turn to property crime to support their habits.

I would like to see everyone get the vaccine in the entire world to rid us of this scourge. I just strongly feel that the order of distribution by the health authorities is not fair and does thousands of seniors a disservice.
