Tipping points election

We live in a perilous time; a time of irreversible ecological tipping points. (Science, Vol.377, No.6611, 9 Sept. 2022) Even in this bucolic corner of Cowichan, we cannot escape these planetary perils. One critical tipping point could well trigger the onset of a compounding consequential cascade of natural infrastructure failures.

How can we arrest this oncoming threat? Tell the federal government how you feel about their policy direction with respect to the Paris Agreement. Tell the provincial government how you feel about their continued promotion and development of fossil fuel based resources. And, perhaps most important of all, tell local Cowichan candidates for municipal and regional office how you feel by voting on Oct. 15.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has reported to the UN General Assembly this day, “Our world is in peril — and paralyzed.”

Let us in Cowichan shake off paralysis, starting at our neighbourhood polling station.
