Stop hunting in Cowichan Bay
In the past two decades the bird populations world wide have fallen by at least 40 per cent. It is evidenced here in the Cowichan Valley by reduced numbers of nearly all species which spend a short time on their journey south.
That these beautiful birds, in their reduced numbers, have to run a deadly gauntlet of shotgun fire is shameful.
Lured in by decoys (daytime pit lamping in my opinion), these “sportsmen” are selfish and short sighted, destroying not only something living but the joy of a public space used by far more people than they.
If it’s food they are after, I suggest the food bank. If it is the killing that is the draw, I recommend counselling.
