Change to speed limits not necessary

So, Duncan speed limits will be reduced from 50 km/hr, which for those of us old enough to remember the imperial system speed limits, equates to 30 mph. Which has been satisfactory since speed limits were put in place.

What has changed? Cars and trucks have better tires, better braking systems and many makes and models are equipped with traffic warning systems. Some have internal governors to instantly reduce speed. Reducing the speed limit to 30 km equates to 18 mph! A virtual snail’s pace!

This will cause longer lineups between traffic light changes and create frustrated, impatient drivers that are more likely to cause an accident. Where are the accident statistics to back up this insane move? More likely it is simply a bunch of nervous nellies who shouldn’t be behind the steering wheel of a car in the first place taking an unjustified action to pad municipal coffers with speeding ticket revenue. This is more government overreach.
