Letter: Bamberton quarry expansion unwelcome

The threatened Bamberton area of Mill Bay-Malahat must be preserved and protected

Bamberton quarry expansion unwelcome

Dear Mr. Rue Pope, co-ordinator for the Ministry of Energy & Mines, Southwest Region:

I strongly object to the quarry expansion proposal by the Malahat Investment Corporation (Application number 0800407, Rene Bourdin).

I urge our Ministry of Energy and Mines Southwest Region to reject this application that could potentially be toxic and noxious to nearby residents, our sensitive Saanich Inlet, its adjacent lands and waters, plus flora and fauna.

I further note expansion of this dusty, noisy operation could cause barge damage to the inlet, and boost road traffic to and from the verdant Bamberton area site.

The threatened Bamberton area of Mill Bay-Malahat must be preserved and protected. Any further development and expansion must be done with surgical precision and logical thinking.

Thank you in advance for considering rejection of this unwelcome industrial application foreshadowing further environmental degradation, plus property devaluation.

Peter W. Rusland
