Letter: 4 steps to help homeless and addicted

We will need a motion written to change the laws of the province

4 steps to help homeless and addicted

Four initial steps to restore our towns and help those homeless and addicted to drugs — can you help?

Step one:

A independent report needs to be commissioned outlining the challenges and highlighting the number of homeless that we are witnessing on our streets in the Cowichan Valley. Who will organize this step?

Step two:

About 80 per cent of homeless are victims of drugs or have mental illnesses. We need a safe location on Vancouver Island away from drug dealers that can accommodate these lost souls so meaningful 24/7 treatment from qualified doctors and care givers can be provided. If successful on Vancouver Island the rest of the province could follow with similar plans in their areas. Who will organize this step?

Step three:

We will need a motion written to change the laws of the province to allow us to help homeless drug addicts and those with mental illnesses (24/7) and a motion to allocate dollars towards this new direction.

Who will organize this step?

Step four:

Once produced the written motion needs to be presented and voted on at the B.C. Legislature.

Who will organize this step?

Summary:

If we don’t make meaningful changes our family members that are victims of drugs will die on the streets. It may take a few months or maybe a few years but they are all heading in the same direction. Is it time to show compassion and provide proper care? Please share these steps.
