Dump Phoenix payroll turkey now

Dear Alistair MacGregor, MP, Cowichan-Malahat-Langford:

Your opposition NDP party must view this $540-million payroll-system mess as a prime political punchline — laughable if it weren’t such a big joke on Canadian taxpayers. Sure, we can blame the former Harper Conservatives for introducing Phoenix, and the Trudeau Liberals for adopting it, but in my books, government is still government.

We now look to all parties to work together and scrap this bankrupt pay system today, given Auditor General Michael Ferguson’s recent damning and financially frightening report about this payroll turkey. Not being able to simply pay government workers is a national disgrace. I feel most sorry for federal workers left wondering when and if they’ll be ever be properly paid.

Phoenix should dumped now, before it grows to cost us more than $1 billion of our hard-earned money — as happened in Australia. Flushing Phoenix must happen now, even it means using handwritten federal paycheques.
