1925 - 2010

After eighty-five event filled years, Stanley Archdale Medd, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed away at home in Port Renfrew on Thursday, July 8, 2010. Predeceased by his wife June who passed away on September 24, 2006, Stan is survived by: his four children Mike (Suzanne), Mark (Diane), Gordon (Jayme) and Sharon (Evan); his grandchildren Patricia, Cameron, Ty and Chad; and great grandchildren Charlie, Brody and Lily.

Stan was born on September 21, 1925 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and moved to Victoria during the depression. Stan has also lived in Vancouver, Penticton, Duncan, Mesachie Lake, Victoria and since 1986 in Port Renfrew. He proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. In the navy, Stan was assigned to the MTB797, 65th Motor Torpedo Boat Floatillary. He was a member of the Canadian legion for more than 50 years.

Some of Stan’s fondest memories were the times he spent in Mesachie Lake from 1966 - 1977. During that time, Stan played softball, hockey and curled. He was an active member of the Mesachie Lake Fire Department and the Lake Cowichan Kiwanis Club. As a volunteer he helped build the Lake Cowichan arena and spent several years assisting with the Lake Days and Lady of the Lake competition. He loved living in Mesachie Lake and returned often for events including the annual softball tournament where Stan loved to umpire and reconnect with friends.

A celebration service and reception honoring Stan

will be held July 24, at 2:30pm, at Port Renfrew School

on Parkinson Road.
