May 4, 1928 - April 8, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mum, Grams and Great-granny. Shirley was born in Duncan on May 4, 1928 and slipped away peacefully on April 8, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband Nels in 1988 and sister-in-law Ludvina Maitland in 2008. Her memory will be forever cherished by her sons Richard (Ellen) and Ken (Faith), her grandchildren Scott, Mike, Brookes, Ashley and Brendan as well as her great-grandchildren Carter and Marly. She will be missed by brothers Peter and Michael (Lavina), brother-in-law Sven (Mary) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Shirley belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary to the Cowichan District Hospital and enjoyed working in the hospital gift shop. She was also a member of TOPS for over 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, walking, reading, playing Bingo and her outings to the casino.
The family extends thanks to Dr. Peter Postuk for his special care.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the Lake Cowichan United Church on April 18, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the BC Heart and Stroke Association or the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
