It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Sam, beloved husband of Jean, and father of sons George, and Kerry (Joy); daughters Barbara (Jim Main), and Cathy (Roger Ford), and beloved grandson Nathan Cadwallader.

Sam was born and raised in Nanaimo, B.C. on April 26, 1925. He is predeceased by parents Amos and Margaret Brown, sisters Margaret, and Agnes. He is survived by brothers Le Roy Brown (Marge), and George Brown (Dorothy); sisters Esther, Pearl, and Iva. Sam leaves many nieces and nephews.

Sam held the position of Gunner, Royal Canadian Artillery, 8th Field Regiment, 5th Division in the Second World War. He trained in Vernon, B.C., Halifax, N.S., and England. He served in Holland, Belgium, and Germany.

He came back to Canada to enlist for a tour in the Far East when the war ended. He, and many soldiers, arrived in lake Cowichan to work in the “woods.”

He met and married Jean in 1947. On April 1, 2014 they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Sam worked for Reliable Logging, Grosskleg Logging, and Mt. Sicker Logging. Upon retiring, Sam and Jean took up RVing and traveled the continent.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Curling Lounge at the Cowichan Lake Sports Arena, 311 South Shore Road, Lake Cowichan, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the BC Children’s Hospital or the Autism Society of BC.
