April 6, 2014

“Stormin” Norman Rogers passed away peacefully at the Mackenzie District Hospital on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the age of 61.

Norm was born in New Westminster, B.C., February 6, 1953 and spent his childhood in Kamloops and Port Renfrew where he developed his love of the outdoors. Fishing was his passion and many joyful hours were spent with the “Renfrew Crew” fishing and hiking on the west coast. Later, Norm was employed at BCFP, Renfrew Division.

After moving around, ‘Pea Picker’ settled at the at the Lake, met and married the love of his life, Cary, and had 3 children.

Employment at Fletcher Challenge enabled Norm to lead his family to Mackenzie BC. “Nam” thought very highly of his co-workers and formed many special and long-lasting friendships.

Norm was in his glory with the abundance of hunting and fishing in the great, white north. An avid bowler, Norm especially looked forward every year, to the Northwest Open and all the shenanigans that went with it!

He was a consummate story-teller . . . the more he retold the tales, the more exciting they became! (right Cheek?)

Norm leaves behind his wife, Cary, son Rylan ‘Partner’, daughter Jaela ‘Sis’, and son Kale ‘Spudman’. Also his best friend and incredible sister Nikki Elliott (John), mother Kathleen, father Norm (Merva), 2 brothers, 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Norm was an extremely hard worker, and always ready to lend a hand in need. He will be remembered for his animated laugh, his burl creations, his handy-man skills, consideration for others and his strength and determination in the face of adversity. But first and foremost he will remembered for the love of his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Port Renfrew this summer.

The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands

in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands

at times of challenge and controversy.
