December 3, 1924 – April 7, 2010

Muriel Margaret St. Cyr, with her family by her side, passed away peacefully at the Chemainus Health Care Centre, April 7th, 2010. She was born in Ditton Park, Saskatchewan on December 3, 1924.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Frank Fraser and children Gordon and Barry, her parents Alice and Thomas Wrigley and siblings Alfred, Phillip, Russell and Wilfred. Years later she met and married Gerard St. Cyr in 1957 and had four children; Julie Langelo (Bob ), Rene (Tamara), Carla Peltier (Roy), and Andre (Margaret). She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Gerry, four children, ten grandchildren; Jennifer, Shawn, Alisha, Brandon, Breanna, Gavin, Rachelle, Curtis, Sarah, Shane and two great grandchildren; Maia and Liam.

Muriel moved to the West Coast when she was 18 years of age and began her teaching career in a one room schoolhouse on Salt Spring Island. Later she moved to Lake Cowichan in 1955 where she taught music in the elementary schools until age sixty five. She also taught hundreds of piano students in the family home until the age of 80. Muriel was involved for many years in the Lake Cowichan Music Club, St. Aidan Church’s choir, line dancing and the Seniors’ Centre. Mom and Dad spent many happy years fifth wheeling and travelling south every winter. Mom loved children, music, camping, knitting, and gardening. Mom always loved family gatherings. Mom was a very loving, caring, giving, compassionate, and hard working mother and teacher. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered and loved by her family and friends.

Funeral service to take place Friday, April 16th, 1:00 pm at St. Christopher’s and St. Aidan’s Anglican Church, 70 Cowichan St. West, Lake Cowichan. Service conducted by the Reverend Andrew Hewlett and David Peterson. Reception to follow. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Cowichan Music Festival for a bursary/scholarship in Muriel’s name. Donations may be mailed or dropped off to Delores Wagg (treasurer – Cowichan Music Festival), 6041 Hyacinth Place, Duncan, B.C. V9L 3Y8.
