Mary Austin, formerly of Youbou, BC, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2007. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bill and her four brothers and sisters. She is survived by her only son Gordon (Carolyne) and several nephews and nieces. Mary was born on December 26, 1911 in Alberni, BC and moved to Youbou in 1937 where she lived until 1994. Her remaining days were spent at Cowichan Lodge in Duncan, BC where she impacted staff and residents alike as a helpful and caring person. She will be sorely missed by all of them. Mary dearly loved her husband Bill, son Gordon and her communities of Alberni and Youbou. She was an ardent letter writer and story teller and had a clear mind to the end. Baking, gardening, painting, sewing, knitting and crafts took up much of her time during her life. She boasted one of the best gardens in Youbou at one time. Her hands were never idle. Many thanks to Dr. David Froese and the staff at Cowichan Lodge. In lieu of flowers or donations the family asks that you remember to keep in touch with loved ones and to share stories of your life journeys with family and friends to keep your history alive. Mary followed this path to the end of her long life. Mary will rest in Alberni Valley Memorial Gardens with her husband Bill. No service by request.
