Joan Myra Gordon

April 11, 2006

Joan passed away peacefully on April 11, 2006, in Coquitlam with her family close by. Predeceased by her loving husband Jim in 1998, as well as her mother and father Sid and Dorothy Scholey. Joan will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her loving daughter Louvain Barr, son Butch (Trudy), grandchildren Jim, Krista and Shayne (Kaylyn), great-granddaughter Brooke and her great grandson Brayden as well as her loving brother Syd (Berna) and many neices, nephews and friends. Joan was born in Duncan on October 3, 1920 and lived all her childhood years in Lake Cowichan with her family and helped her parents open the first General Store and Post Office in Lake Cowichan. In 1942 she met and married the love of her life, her loving husband and best friend Jimmie. They settled in Lake Cowichan after Jim returned from the R.C. Navy in 1945 and they remained in Lake Cowichan for the remainder of their marriage. They had two children, daughter Louvain and son Butch. Joan worked for the Village Office in Lake Cowichan for many years. She was involved with many organizations: Joan was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star (Sunset Chapter for 61 years), Kaatza Historial Society, Lake Cowichan Kinettes, Women’s Auxillary at St. Aiden’s/St. Christopher’s Anglican Church. While raising her family she was always volunteering and would never hesitate to help friends in need. All who knew her have been touched by her compassion and gift of giving. The family would like to say a special thank-you to Dr. Crothers and all the loving and caring nursing and support staff at Cartier House for their special care they gave her. In lieu of flowers, donations to charity of your choice would be appreciated.

“Jim and Joan finally together again” Service will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, 5800 Church Road, Duncan, on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at 2:30 p.m.
