Donald “Don” passed away peacefully at Cerwydden Care Facility, Duncan, BC, with his wife Georgie by his side.
Don was born in New Westminster, BC on July 7, 1932, the second eldest and only son of George and Bernice Grant who predeceased him in 1963 and 1973.
Don had 47 continuous years of service with the I.W.A. (now Steelworkers’ Union) as a Boom-man and Boom-dozer Operator. In 1984 Don was severely injured at work which eventually rendered him paraplegic and necessitated his complex care in Cerwydden (an amazing facility with caring and loving staff members).
Don is survived by his loving wife Georgie of 54 years; two loving sons, Darcy and Daryl (Lori); one loving daughter, Michelle (Eric); two loving granddaughters, Chelsey (Chris) and Sarah (Jesse); one loving grandson, Tristan and his precious great-grandson, Joshua.
Don is survived by his sister, Yvonne; nephews, Donnie, Brian, Terry, Grant, Ross and Michael; niece, Tanya and sister-in-law Blandine (Jim).
Don was predeceased by two sisters, Margaret “Peggy” and Zelda “Tinker”; brother-in-law, Dr. Fred Scriver and nephew, Rocky Giles.
Don was a kind, genuine, warm and welcoming man - never judgemental. Always accepting his many health challenges.
A GENTLE GIANT who loved God with all his heart! It was an houour and privelege to be a part of his life.
Our sincerest thanks to the Cerwydden Staff for so lovingly caring for Don - especially during his final days.
A Memorial Service was held at Duncan United Church on May 25, 2016.
