Oct. 31: *Youbou Community Hall hosts the annual Youbou Haunted House and costume competition, beginning at 5:30 p.m. All are welcome. Hot dogs will be served by YVFD, and fireworks will follow. *Honeymoon Bay hosts Halloween activities starting at 6:30 p.m. when the siren blows. There will be a costume contest and HMBVFD will serve hot dogs and hot chocolate. There will also be a fire and the evening will end with fireworks.
Nov. 1: *Poppies for Remembrance Day go on sale at the Legion and around town. Funds from the Legion sales go to veterans in need. *Bazaar at the 50 Plus Seniors Centre. Table rental fee $15. *Secrets to Successful Composting workshop runs this Saturday at Centennial Hall. Workshop is from 10 to 11 a.m. A work party follows from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the community garden site behind the ball field. Learn to make a fantastic compost system for your garden. This is part of the Community Gardening series put on by Cowichan Green Community and Cowichan Lake Recreation.
Nov. 2: Cowichan Lake Food Bank Bottle Drive–VIU student Hailey Hudson and two of her classmates are running a bottle drive fundraiser as a class project. They have chosen the food bank to receive funds. Watch for them around town this Sunday.
Nov. 3: All Candidates Forum at Centennial Hall–This Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., the Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce will host a Municipal All Candidates Forum at Centennial Hall. All are welcome and encouraged to come here municipal candidates speak.
Nov. 11: Remembrance Day–Ceremonies to honour veterans will be held as usual at the Cenotaph at 11 a.m.
Nov. 15: Election Day–Vote for mayoral and councillor candidates. Your ballot will also ask if you are for or against the Sportsplex. The voting will be held at Centennial Hall from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Register to vote before or on Election Day.
Nov. 20: Creating Healthy Soil for Organic Gardening runs on a Thursday at Cowichan Lake Sports Arena. Workshop 10 to 11 a.m.,work party 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. behind the ball field. Workshop will focus on ‘lasagna mulching.’ Put on by Cowichan Green Community and Cowichan Lake Recreation.
