Kehar Garry Sangha has been denied bail by Judge Parker MacCarthy in Duncan provincial court on June 19.
Sangha’s next court appearance has been scheduled for July 4 when he will decide if he wants to be tried in provincial court or B.C. Supreme Court.
Sangha, 52, has pleaded not guilty to nine charges related to a case in which a woman is alleged to have been held against her will in a Cowichan Valley home over a three-day period in April.
The charges against Sangha, who remains in custody after his arrest on April 12, include aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and unlawful confinement or imprisonment.
Officers responded to a 911 call on April 11, finding a woman in need of medical assistance being aided by a local contractor.
Sangha was taken into custody the next day.
