A driver of a car involved in a rollover on the Trans Canada Highway on Aug. 18 was rushed to hospital with undetermined injuries.

The accident, involving a black, southbound Honda occurred at approximately 6 a.m. on the TCH between Wilson Road and Bench Road.

The car hit the concrete guardrails on the right side of the highway then travelled upside down and backwards until it was stopped by the median.

The driver and sole occupant was initially trapped in the vehicle, and was extracted by BC Ambulance Service and Cowichan Bay Volunteer Fire Rescue before being transported to hospital for assessment.

Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision.

Police and workers from Mainroad Contracting were on scene directing and rerouting traffic for approximately 90 minutes, and sections of the TCH were closed until the road was safe for use and the investigation was complete.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Tiger Towing.
