Kate Segall running to be director for Electoral Area A (Mill Bay/Malahat)

Segall faces two contenders

Kate Segall is running for the the director’s seat in the Cowichan Valley Regional District’s Electoral Area A (Mill Bay/Malahat).

The other contenders for the seat in the election on Oct. 15 are Mark Dodd and Paul Olthof.

Segall said that when she and her husband arrived in Mill Bay seven years ago, they knew instantly that this was a place where they could put down roots and raise their family.

Segall said she wanted to contribute by getting involved in community groups and agencies.

“My history of volunteering in Mill Bay has proven my dedication to our community,” she said.

“As vice president of the Mill Bay Community League, I spearheaded a community-wide survey to help identify critical community needs, and organized monthly meetings to address water, emergency preparedness, and fire safety. My community engagement was quickly noticed and I was appointed on both the area planning and parks commissions.”

Segall said that while on the area planning commission, she advised the CVRD’s board on development; including land use, water, and the upcoming harmonized official community plan.

“I have coordinated with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to install flashing speed signs in local school zones,” she said.

“As leader of the parent advisory committee, I have led fundraisers, volunteered with Nourish Cowichan, and established the first Truth and Reconciliation committee.”

Segall said she’s university educated, dedicated, highly organized and resourceful.

“I get things done,” she said.

“Most importantly, I am committed to serving the residents of Mill Bay. As your area director, I will govern transparently and sustainably, continue to speak up for Mill Bay residents, and advocate for safety. There is a questionnaire on my website where I want to hear what you want to see in the community of Mill Bay.”
