Put on your dancing shoes and — if such a thing exists — your dancing hat because the Cowichan Lake Golden Agers Society is hosting its second annual Anniversary Tea Dance and Hat Parade.

On Saturday, June 25, from 1 to 3 p.m., the group is holding the semi-formal event at the 50 Plus Activity Centre in Lake Cowichan. It will feature door prizes, food and live music. Guests will be treated to a fancy tea plate and dessert plate.

“Not quite as fancy as the Empress, but it will be good,” said Carolyne Austin, the society’s past president and one of the event’s organizers.

Austin encouraged women and men to come with their favourite hats, which will be judged and awarded prizes.

“We encourage men to come too because we have a prize for men’s hats, too,” she said.

The Golden Agers Society used to host an anniversary dinner, but in recent years attendance was slipping, which Austin attributed to busy schedules in June. She said the group expects an afternoon event better fits with its members’ schedules. (This activity is open to non-members, as well.)

Tickets are $6.75.
