Tanya Gorrill is the new store manager at Old Farm Market location just south of Duncan.
Gorrill, who grew up in Surrey and has been living in Shawnigan Lake for the past five years, has 19 years of experience in the grocery store business, including stints as store manager while working at six different Loblaws stores on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
“It’s a real joy to work for a business that’s not corporate oriented but is community oriented,” said Gorrill, whose first day of work was June 3.
“I’m already really enjoying myself.”
Chris Steel, general manager of the Old Farm Market which has two more stores in Courtenay and Oak Bay, said hiring Gorrill to run the Cowichan Valley location was like finding the missing link.
“We’ve been having a lot of growth recently so it was exciting to find Tanya with all of her skills and her vision of marketing,” he said.
“The Old Farm Market carries exceptional produce and products, and we have created an atmosphere unlike anywhere else on Vancouver Island.”

Volunteer Cowichan will host the Aging Well Expo that is taking place at the Cowichan Community Centre on June 19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Whether you are an older adult, a young adult, a caregiver, or someone interested in learning more about the healthy aging resources available in the community, you are encouraged to attend the Aging Well Expo.
The Expo features more than 35 vendors offering information about health, financial, legal, and physical-care services and products available in the Cowichan Valley.
The free event will also offer presentations, ongoing activities, light refreshments and door prizes.

The new and improved Mid Island Liquor store at Berkey’s Corner will celebrate its grand opening on June 7
This newly built store represents the largest in the Mid Island Liquor family, as well as the largest retail liquor store in the Cowichan Valley region.

The Downtown Duncan BIA is letting people know that the City of Duncan is inviting everyone to help name the park at Station Street in a way that captures its vibrant spirit and community essence.
“This is your chance to be a part of something special and ensure the park truly reflects our collective identity,” the DDBIA said.
To participate, please submit your name suggestion through the Station Street Placemaking Project Page by clicking on ‘Take Survey” to add your idea. The deadline for submissions is June 14 at 4: p.m.
After the deadline, all proposed names will be reviewed by an advisory panel.
Selected names will then be voted on by the public, with the final decision made by Duncan’s city council.
The chosen name will be in both English and Hul’q’umi’num, honoring the diverse heritage of our community.
“Let’s come together to create a name that will make this park a beloved space for everyone,” the DDBIA.
