Cherelle Jardine is bringing her band, Stone Poets, to The 39 Days of July Buckerfield’s Stage at Charles Hoey Park on Saturday, July 20 starting at 4 p.m.

This is just a great time to settle back in a chair and enjoy a rest from shopping or whatever else you’ve been doing in downtown Duncan and groove serenely with this talented group.

They released their fourth CD last year and are releasing a brace of brand new singles this summer.

Scott Jackson, Cherelle Jardine and Marc Gladstone (from the band, Prism) are each talented in their own right but collectively they are Stone Poets.

Their music could be described as “contemporary folk”.

Folk doesn’t mean what it used to, if you’re thinking ‘Michael Rowed the Boat Ashore’ by the campfire.

These folks feature a keyboard, two acoustic guitars and rich, harmony laden vocals, but they’re also contemporary because Cherelle says their subject matter “ventures into subjects other than country roads and maple leaves”.

Just as much at home in large theatre settings or festivals as they are in private house concerts, Stone Poets can tell a story with music, and pull on those heart strings.

Smoke and Mirrors, their fourth album, was released March 24, 2018, supported by Creative BC and the Province of B.C.

The idea behind their latest song: “A study by scientist, Geraldine Dawson, measures the interaction between baby and parent. When a mother first touches and looks at her newborn, her right orbitofrontal cortex lights up like a red hot Christmas tree bulb. That seems to trigger the same reaction in the same region of the baby’s brain! That connection helps baby grow and develop that part of the brain. This region of the brain is responsible for emotional and impulse control, social thinking and the ability to pay attention and focus which is also known as self-regulation. Self-regulation is the precursor to a persons capacity for attention and learning.”
