Vancouver Island artist nominated for 2024 Juno breakthrough award

Victoria native Evan Crofton and his band have been nominated for a Juno Award.

Crofton performs under the name Alistair Blu, and he is the lead vocalist and a multi-instrumentalist with soul-jazz collective Busty and the Bass, who are up for breakthrough group of the year at the 2024 Juno Awards.

Victoria-born pop star Nelly Furtado will host and perform at the award show at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax on March 24. Furtado was nominated for dance recording of the year for her single “Eat Your Man.”

Crash Adams, Good Kid, Men I Trust and New West are also in contention for breakthrough group of the year.

Busty and the Bass released their latest album Forever Never Cares on Nov. 17 and performed in Victoria at Wicket Hall on Dec. 3.

Montreal production duo Banx & Ranx was named breakthrough group of the year at the 2023 Juno Awards.
