Queen Margaret’s School hit the boards last month with their production of Peter and the Starcatcher at the QMS Fine Arts Hall.

The show ran April 27-30, and is a story based on the the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, billed as “The story of Neverland you never knew”. It tells the tale of how Peter Pan, Captain Hook, Tinkerbell and the Lost Boys came to be.

The show starred Bennett Telfer, Jade Chen, Maia Cassie, Lexa Pritchett, Grey Kernachan, Madison Klaassen, Lucy Lavigne, Charlie Balcom, Paul Gammie, Bria Grounds, Gracie Williams, Lyndzie Brizzi, Nora Eisinger, Jillian Telfer, Ella Xu, and Coco Tian.

“I love theatre is its capacity to bring people together and through the power of storytelling, to bring about both personal and communal transformation,” said director Tilly Lorence. “I couldn’t think of a better play to celebrate the power of the collective than Peter and the Starcatcher. In this award-winning play, the entire cast is essential to telling the story. At lightning flash speed, the actors transform from narrators to vibrant pirates, to walls, ropes and stars. Performed in “poor theatre” style, the cast and crew use their imaginations to transform the ordinary into the extraordinary: a yellow glove becomes a bird, cardboard becomes ships, and cell-phone flashlights become starstuff. Our hardworking production team of seven teachers guided over 50 students to up-cycle costumes and construct set-pieces and props from used materials. Our rehearsal process included inquiry, experimentation, mistake-making, and laughter!”
