Mill Bay man a winner in SPCA wildlife photography contest

Sam Gorick of Mill Bay won third place in the Backyard Habitats category

A Mill Bay man has been named one of the winners in the SPCA’s annual Wildlife-in-Focus Photography Contest.

“Amateur wildlife photographers in B.C. have once again made it tough for the judges of the BC SPCA’s 14th annual Wildlife-in-Focus photography contest to pick the top three winners,” said a press release.

A first, second, and third place winner was chosen in two different categories: Backyard Habitats and Wild Settings.

The first category aimed to highlight people’s relationship with wild animals in our backyards, while the second highlights animals in their natural habitats.

Sam Gorick of Mill Bay won third place in the Backyard Habitats category for “Racoons: family photo…right before bedtime!”

A people’s choice award was also handed out, along with a number of honourable mentions.

“With more than 800 photos submitted, it was a challenge for the contest judges to choose only a few of the many amazing photos celebrating B.C.’s diverse wildlife,” says Erin Ryan of the BC SPCA. “We want to thank all the participants for sharing their amazing photos and helping to raise $23,924.00 to help the BC SPCA’s Wild ARC care for injured and orphaned wildlife.”
