Andrew S. Brown, booking and production manager at Barely North Entertainment, passed along notice that it starts on Saturday, Dec. 9, with A Jazz Holiday Special with Maureen Washington.
Why not join them for an evening of jazz holiday songs with Washington and her full band? Make it a new holiday tradition. Organizers promise that mulled wine and gingerbread cookies will be available to help make this a festive treat.

Our friend, Bob Johns, has leaned over the back fence to say that Lizzy Hoyt is coming to Crofton with a Christmas show on Saturday, Dec. 9.
The Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society is presenting this 8 p.m. show at the Crofton Hotel. Tickets are available at the hotel or at Rainforest Arts on Willow Street in Chemainus.
Any unsold tickets will be available at the door.
Those who were fortunate enough to catch Hoyt’s Chemainus show in April, 2016 will be looking forward to the opportunity to see her again, Johns says.
The Winnipeg-based performer is a singer, musician, dancer and songwriter, playing guitar, Celtic harp and fiddle.
She will bring her favourite trio with her for this show. Hoyt has garnered many awards during her career, including the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for her musical tribute to Vimy Ridge. Her show in Crofton will be her sole appearance on Vancouver Island during her western tour this winter, so don’t waste this opportunity. Tickets are $20 each.

It’s the last month of the year, as the song goes, and hard-driving classic R&B tunes and golden oldies are on the menu when popular trombonist Nick La Riviere brings Soul Source, his 19-piece community rhythm-and-blues band, to Pat’s House of Jazz at the Osborne Bay Pub on Sunday, Dec. 10.
The band includes “a bevy of vocalists, saxes and brass and a five-piece rhythm section,” according to publicist Ron Joiner.
La Riviere is an in-demand player, found regularly with the international touring band The Paperboys and with Michael Kaeshammer, Pretzel Logic and the Timebenders.
The show, the final one of the year for the jazz series at the pub, starts at 2 p.m.
Now in its fifth year, the series, presented by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society, resumes on Jan. 14 with Afro-Cuban pianist Pablo Cardenas.
Admission is $15 at the door.
