The enthusiastic Medford Singers are asking music lovers to Be Our Guest! as they present The Music of Disney in two concerts Jan. 19-20.

They will sing first in Lake Cowichan; there are several members of the choir who live at Cowichan Lake. Then, the next day, they present the same show in Duncan.

Joining them as special guests are the Drinkwater Elementary School Choir, led by Kris Poole.

Concertgoers can enjoy medleys from Aladdin and The Lion King as well as an overall Disney medley.

There are so many favourites, says publicist Michele Jedwab.

Tell us more, you say?

How about ‘It’s a Small World’, ‘Be Our Guest’, ‘Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’, ‘Hakuna Matata’, ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Zip a dee doo da’, ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’ and so many others.

A three-piece combo made up of guitarist Randy Waldi, stand-up bass player Steve Flood, and drummer, Michael Beechey, will join the piano to accompany some of the songs.

Anyone driving past on rehearsal days can hear that the choir is enjoying preparing this music.

Director Simon Leung brings his many years of experience conducting choirs and teaching voice to the task and is now in his fifth year with the Medford Singers.

The choir has acquired Joanna Hibberd this year as their accompanist, according to Jedwab. Hibberd has taught piano for years and has also had experience as an accompanist.

A portion of the choirs’ concerts fund a mentorship program and bursary to help gifted students wanting to continue their musical studies beyond secondary school.

“The afternoon promises to be a fun one the whole family will enjoy. The familiar tunes will have everyone singing along,” Jedwab says.

In Lake Cowichan, the choir is performing at Lake Cowichan Christian Fellowship Church at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19.

In Duncan, the choir will sing at Duncan United Church at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20.

Tickets are $17 in advance, $20 at the door, with children 12 and under getting in free. Get your tickets at Remax Lake Cowichan and Volume One bookstore Duncan, or from choir members.
