Arion Male Voice Choir coming to Chemainus

The group is the oldest continually performing male voice choir in Canada

The popular Arion Male Voice Choir performs at the Chemainus United Church on Sunday, May 14 starting at 2 pm.

The Arion (pronounced a-RYE-on) Choir has operated continually since its founding in 1892, during the reign of Queen Victoria.

It predates both the British Columbia Parliament Buildings (1897) and the Empress Hotel (1908).

The group is the oldest continually performing male voice choir in Canada and is celebrating its 95th Anniversary this year.

The choir performs numerous concerts each year at venues in Victoria and elsewhere on Vancouver Island, at official ceremonies and at local shows with other choruses.

The choir also performs charity concerts in seniors homes and supports the development and studies of young vocal talent in Victoria.

Chemainus’s favourite tenor, Ken Lavigne, has been one performer who has benefitted.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for students and children.

Tickets are available at Owl’s Nest Bistro in Chemainus and Volume One Bookstore in Duncan. They will also be available at the door.
