North Cowichan and City of Duncan Fire Department, RCMP, and British Columbia Ambulance Service were at Cowichan Secondary School on May 18 to reenact a car crash while showing students the impacts of impaired and distracted driving for their Arrive Alive event.
Emergency services personnel demonstrated all that is involved when arriving on scene, and removing a driver, and passengers safely from a vehicle which has been in a serious accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, two out of three people will be impacted by drunk driving in their lifetime.
This event, which has not been put on since before the pandemic, aimed to encourage discussions on options to driving impaired and distracted while spreading a deeper awareness among the student body.
