Elder College in Cowichan goes outdoors for spring

April is the college’s busiest month yet with eight offerings

Elder College partners with the CVRD’s Cowichan Community Centre to plan and deliver a variety of programs throughout the year. With spring just around the corner, they are introducing outdoor programs in April in addition to the classroom sessions.

There are two March programs remaining that start on Tuesday, March 29. Zentangle is an unique combination of meditation and art; and Conscious Aging explores the aging process through discussions, readings and personal reflections.

April is the college’s busiest month yet with eight offerings. Three outdoor programs are available. They include a guided cycling program for women, a course to identify birds by ear, and lawn bowling. The Cowichan Valley Cycling for Women program (four sessions) will take you on Cowichan back roads and trails. The Birding by Ear program will help you further enjoy bird life and Lawn Bowling will introduce and engage you in an open air sport.

Three classroom based courses focus on history. You can choose global history that looks at the First World War July crisis, local history that looks at Ladysmith’s background, and/or the history of farming through the evolution of farming tools.

If you like literature and Irish authors, and their Paris connections, the six session series on The Lure of Paris is for you. If you like to arm chair travel, Ethiopia awaits.

Yoga and Meditation (five sessions) is a gentle way to tone, strengthen and relax.

Elder College is always looking for new ideas and instructors as well as advisory committee members. Contact Jennifer Carmichael at 250-748-7529.
