After 25 years and almost a million dollars raised, the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation has a new name for its annual golf tournament.
“It is only fitting that on this, our 25th anniversary year, the tournament become the Stormin’ Norm Jackson CDHF Pro Am,” explained Aimee Sherwood, executive director of the Hospital Foundation.
“Norm has been instrumental in the success of the tournament since the beginning and he is a long-standing member of the board of directors of the Foundation.”
This year’s tournament at Cowichan Golf and Country Club attracted a full complement of 144 golfers, sponsors and special guests, including Jackson’s son, Bob, who came over from the Mainland for the special event.
“Norm has been so generous and philanthropic and so it was quite appropriate for us to name the tournament in his honour,” Sherwood added.
The golf tournament is one of two major fundraising events for the Foundation, the other being the annual gala that was held in April at Shawnigan Lake School.
Jackson had to share some of the spotlight at this year’s tournament held on Sept. 6 with Craig Wolstenholme, a pharmacist at Ingram Pharmacy.
Wolstenholme scored a hole-in-one on the par 3, 160-yard, sixth hole, collecting the $50,000 prize. He shared the prize with the Foundation, $25,000 for CDHF and $25,000 for himself.
