Having recently returned from a two-week voyage into Nicaragua, local go-getter Jackie Johnson has already started fund-raiser for her next expedition; a spot as BC Ambassador. Last weekend had her outside the Country Grocer selling hotdogs.

Her volunteer trip to Nicaragua was an interesting one, she said, and provided her some real-world experience into dentistry.

“It was a real eye-opener,” she said.

With many Nicaraguans unfamiliar with the practice of brushing teeth, it was a challenge, she said. The volunteer dental unit she was a part of helped about 200 people during her two-week stay.

Johnson plans on returning to the Country Grocer at least once more for another hot dog fund-raiser, Sunday, June 26.

She’s also working the bar at the Lady of the Lake Grand Ball, Friday, June 10, and has a basket with a flat iron and various hair products for raffle at Chainsaw Sally’s.

All proceeds from these efforts go to the BC Ambassadorship program.
