On Sunday, April 28, the Town of Lake Cowichan 75th Anniversary and Cowichan Valley ATV Club made a 75th Anniversary Memorial Run to Mount Bolduc to honour the memory of the six RCAF aircrew killed there on April 25, 1944.
Pastor David Stirling of the Legion Lake Cowichan Branch #210 performed a memorial service, and a wreath will be laid by Ross Forrest and Dave Thompson representing both organizations. Transport was provided by ATV through the members of Cowichan Valley ATV Club, who brought about 25 vehicles for the service.
During the Second World War, on April 25, 1944, a Lockheed Ventura Coastal Patrol Plane with a crew of six became disoriented on a flight from Patricia Bay to Tofino. The plane crashed on Mount Bolduc with no survivors. A Cairn located nearby marks the grave and records the names of the crew. The site is a designated War Memorial.
