The Mid Island Youth Field Lacrosse Association is bringing back house leagues for the 2020 season.

The association is hoping to run one league for girls ages 12-16 and two for boys: 9-11 and 12-14.

Registration for all leagues is $75 and includes one practice and one game per week at the Cowichan Sportsplex between Oct. 13 and Dec. 3. Monday night practices started Sept. 28, with additional sessions on Thursday, Oct. 1 and Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Registered players will be divided into four even teams, playing aseries of round-robin games with semifinals and finals at the end for a total of eight weeks. Games will be played on a half field with a minimum of three players per side and target sheets in goal. There will be regular contact, but physical distancing is encouraged whenever possible.

New and experienced players are welcome, and can be aged up or down a year depending on circumstances. Female players may register for boys or girls lacrosse, or both.

Required equipment for boys teams includes a stick, gloves, helmet, slash guards, shoulder pads, jock or jill, and mouthguard. Girls teams will need a stick, goggles and mouthguard. Cleats are optional for both genders.

If there is not enough interest in an age group for a mini league, players may have the option to be a team together and practice and play games in a cohort with other associations, be released to another association, or get a refund.
