The weather finally favoured the Cowichan Women’s Football League last weekend as teams played one game on Friday night and three more on Sunday.

The Wild opened Friday night’s game with a beautiful drive that ended with a touchdown catch by Marika Masters. The rest of the game, however, belonged to the Crew, who got four touchdowns, two coverts and two interceptions from rookie Kailie Lukan en route to a 51-6 victory over the Wild. Kate Collins, Jess Lines, Ali Cooper and Lauren Brandt also scored touchdowns, while Collins had a sack, Brandt added a convert and Janelle Mould added two interceptions. The Wild also got an interception from Jeannine Gaudreau and a sack from Jackie Rose.

The Wild again scored on their first possession on Sunday, with a touchdown from Dieneke Pedersen. The Wild defence got an interception from Ashley Bond and a sack from Shylayne Davidson as they fell 39-6 to the Ravens.

The CWFL’s newest team, the Ruckers, is dealing with injury issues, but stayed with Blue Steel on Sunday in a 13-12 first half before ultimately falling 38-12. The Ruckers got touchdowns from Hannah McKevitt and Jenna Bugden, while the defence got three interceptions from Carolyn Gudmundseth and two from Tyson Beukeboom, and a sack from McKevitt.

The Law returned the opening kickoff against the Storm for a touchdown, then got two scores from Kim Scafe and one from Jaimie Olson as they won 25-18. Scafe added an interception and Wendy Charles had a convert. The Storm got touchdowns from Veronica Smith, Vicky Harris and Rachel Paddle, and a sack from Shelbie Paddle.

The CWFL Junior Girls league continued to develop with a slate of games on Sunday.

“The understanding and knowledge is growing every week, with some amazing players stepping up,” said Chris Mann, who organizes the senior and junior leagues. “In the coming weeks we will see some great games at both levels.”
