Weather or not, the Cowichan Women’s Football League had a full slate of games at McAdam Park on Sunday.

While the conditions weren’t quite storm-level, the Storm were in fine form, shutting down the Wild for a 27-0 victory. Shelbie Paddle led the defence with five sacks, while Veronica Smith, Chelsea Morton, Kat Waldron and Ashton Aumen did the scoring. Rookie Ellie Irvine responded with four sacks for the Wild, while Ashley Bond and Morgan Malinski each recorded an interception.

The Crew had a huge day, defeating the Ruckers 64-12 behind three touchdowns from Candace Bates and a trifecta of interceptions by Janelle Mould. Mould and Kaili Lukan also had two touchdowns, and Kate Collins, Tara Jeffries and Abby Sullivan had one each. Both Ruckers touchdowns came on pick-sixes, one each from Carolyn Gudmundseth and Dani Robb.

The Law couldn’t penetrate the Blue Steel curtain, getting only a sack from Britnie Hearsey in a 30-0 losing cause. Heidi Haslam led Blue Steel with three touchdowns, while Tina Lum and Jessica May had one each. The Blue Steel defence got one sack and one interception each from Kirbee Crisp and Sarah Jones.

The junior girls league continued to develop with games on Sunday afternoon.
