Two-time Canadian champion Lucia Bicknell went undefeated as she repeated as winner of the girls open bracket at the Shawnigan Junior Open Squash Tournament late last month.

Bicknell, who was Canadian champ in the U13 and U15 age groups, defeated Shawnigan Lake School teammate Anika Kurji in the tournament final on Sunday, Sept. 25.

Although Lucia is the only member of the Bicknell family who attends Shawnigan, her three siblings also entered this year’s tournament. Her brother Matt Bicknell, representing Vancouver’s Evergreen Squash Club, battled all the way to the boys open final before falling in four games to Shawnigan’s Mitchell Kahnert.

Two other titles went to Shawnigan students, as Aaron Wong won the boys silver bracket, claiming a title his older brother, Colin, won last year. Thomas Dryden won the boys bronze bracket.

More than 90 players, including some of the best in the province, competed at the 2018 tournament, which was sponsored by Todd Blumel, One Cent Realty, the Taiji Brand Group, and Ms. Delphine Wu.
