There were only two games in the Cowichan Women’s Football League last weekend, and both involved Blue Steel, but only one ended in that team’s favour.

Blue Steel earned a decisive 40-0 victory over the Storm under Friday night lights at McAdam Park, but were beaten 27-12 by the Ravens on Sunday morning.

Quarterback Heidi Haslam led the onslaught on Friday with two touchdowns, while Megan Groenendijk, Alison Drake, Tina Lum and Sara Jones had one apiece. Lum, Sara Jones and Rachel Bakker each had a convert, while Shelley Jones had one sack and Groenendijk added one. Kat Waldron had an outstanding performance for the Storm with four interceptions.

Shelley Jones was Blue Steel’s top performer on Sunday with four sacks and an interception, while Lum had a pick-six. Rachel Bakker had the other touchdown. The Ravens got a 50-yard touchdown run from Jamie Russell and a convert from newcomer Kaycie Mosley.

The Wild and Crew won the other scheduled games last weekend by forfeit. Those two teams are set to square off this Friday at 7 p.m., while the Sunday slate features the Ravens taking on the Wild, the Storm facing the Law, and the Ruckers meeting Blue Steel.
