It was a quiet weekend on Vancouver Island soccer pitches as nearly all adult games were postponed due to snowy weather.

In Div. 1 of the Vancouver Island Soccer League, Cowichan LMG was scheduled to visit Nanaimo United, but will have to wait until this Friday to play their first game of 2020. Cowichan is set to host Gorge FC this Friday at 7:30 p.m., if it rains enough to clear off the Sherman Road turf.

“The snow disappears pretty fast,” LMG head coach Glen Martin said. “But the turf field seems to hold the snow better.”

In Div. 3A, the Cowichan Farm Store Fury were supposed to visit Gorge Us Guys last weekend, but Hampton Park was closed. They are set to host Juan de Fuca Bombers this Saturday at 4 p.m. In Div. 3B, Quw’utsun FC had their home game rescheduled last weekend and will visit Lakehill Hooligans this Sunday.

Both masters A teams from Cowichan had their matches last weekend cancelled, giving them more time to prepare for this Saturday’s Cowichan Derby. The 49ers missed their date with JDF Ghostfinger, and the Steelheads’ meeting with Gorge FC was called off. The teams will square off on the Sherman Road turf this Saturday at 6 p.m.

In Div. 2 of the Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association, Cowichan United had planned to host Saltspring Island last Sunday, but had to cool their heels and will head to Nanaimo this Friday.

The O30A Cowichan Cougars’ road game against Gorge was postponed last weekend, but they will face Gorge’s O30B team this Sunday in a crossover match, also on the road.
