The Shawnigan Lake School Regatta returned last weekend for the first time since 2019, with 20 clubs from across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland taking part.

The host school collected 13 medals, including one gold, and Shawnigan head of rowing Julie Platt was thrilled with her first regatta in that position.

“It was the first regatta in a long time and the regatta chair, Paul Hawksworth, new staff to Shawnigan, did an amazing job piecing it together,” Platt said. “We were blessed with flat water and cursed with an awful lot of rain. The athletes all had a great time.

“It was so special to get this event up and running again and we want to thank all the volunteers who helped run the event as well as the Shawnigan Lake community as well as the rowing community for supporting the event.”
