Four weeks into the Shawnigan Hills parkrun restart, we are starting to see improved performances from our regular runners. No fewer than nine of the 24 finishers recorded personal best times, with Brian Zimmerman continuing his fine form, and Chantal Thomas, Melanie Findlater, Kimberley Broome and David Broome all clocking in over two minutes faster than their previous fastest.

Each registered runner is able to access all previous runs and compare times and monitor progress, whether it be here at Shawnigan Hills, or Clover Point, Victoria, or any of the seven parkruns on the Mainland.

Doug Kirby, one of our regulars before lockdown, celebrated his return with a time of 21:19 – the sixth time he has placed first in this event, whilst Sharm Pedersen was first female finisher, in 27:10.

Walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply come and watch – it is up to you. Be a part of the community, make new friends and socialize – we meet at Shawnigan Coffee House post-run after each event. It is a great way to start the weekend.

To register for parkrun, please go to https://www.parkrun.ca/register. Simply fill in your details and print off your unique barcode and you are good to go.

Next run: Saturday, Oct. 30, 9 a.m.
