Shawnigan Hills parkrun report for Feb. 19

29 runners mark return, including 11 first-timers

Shawnigan Hills parkrun is back! Our first event since the end of 2021, when all events in B.C. were put on hold.

Junior runner Eathan Han, who finished in a time of 25:58, led the field of 29 home. Jason Huang was second with Brenda Niziol completing the top three. We also had 11 first-timers, and Clare Corbett, in her seventh parkrun, recorded one of four personal best times.

This event could not take place without the support of the CVRD and Shawnigan Lake School, our team of volunteers and the core group of parkrunners who take part every week. With the imminent arrival of spring, despite some flurries of snow this week, we look forward to taking the event into April and beyond, something that has not happened yet.

Walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply come and watch — it is up to you. Be a part of the community, make new friends and socialize — we meet at Shawnigan Coffee House post-run after each event. It is a great way to start the weekend.

To register for parkrun, please go to https://www.parkrun.ca/register. Simply fill in your details and print off your unique barcode and you are good to go. Also, please ‘like’ us on the Shawnigan Hills parkrun Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Shawniganhillsparkrun

Next run: Saturday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m.
